100 keeps the size. 50 halves width and height.
Up to 50 images per batch, 50 MB each, about 100 megapixels in or out. Enlarging is limited to 4 times the original size.
How to resize an image
- Choose your images, or drag them onto the page.
- Enter a width or height in pixels (the other follows when the aspect ratio is locked), or switch to a percentage.
- Press Resize, then download the result or a .zip of the batch.
Resizing images in your browser
Resizing means working out a new grid of pixels from the old one. Shrinking averages groups of pixels together, which is why a good downscale looks smooth and a careless one looks jagged. This tool halves the image repeatedly while it is more than twice the target, then makes a final draw to the exact size with high-quality smoothing.
The aspect ratio is the width divided by the height. Keeping it locked means a 1200 × 800 photo set to 600 pixels wide becomes 600 × 400, with no stretching. Turn the lock off only when you want an exact box and accept the distortion.
Tips
- For web pages, resize to the largest size the image is actually shown at, then shrink the file further with Compress image.
- To cut away part of a picture instead, use Crop image.
- Need square icons for a site? Favicon generator makes every size at once.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How does the aspect ratio lock work with several images?
The fields start from the first image's size. With the lock on, whichever of width or height you changed last is applied to every image and the other side follows each image's own proportions. With the lock off, every image is stretched to exactly the width and height you entered.
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, up to 4 times the original width and height. Enlarging cannot add detail, so the result looks softer. Beyond 4 times, the tool refuses rather than make a blurry file.
What quality are JPEG and WebP files saved at?
Quality 92 out of 100, which keeps files visually close to the source. If you also want a smaller file size, run the result through Compress image.
How is the image scaled down?
Large reductions are done in several steps of one half each, then a final draw to the exact size with the browser's high-quality smoothing. That avoids the jagged, aliased look that a single huge reduction can give.
Is EXIF data kept?
No. The image is re-encoded, so metadata such as GPS and camera details is not carried over, and the picture is saved in the orientation it displays in.
