One image at a time, up to 50 MB and about 100 megapixels. PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF (where your browser can open them).
How to crop an image
- Choose an image, or drag it onto the page.
- Drag the box to move it and the corner handles to resize it. Pick an aspect ratio if you need one, or type X, Y, width and height in pixels.
- Press Crop image, then download the result.
Cropping without losing resolution
Cropping keeps a rectangle of the original pixels and throws the rest away. The picture you see on screen is a reduced preview so it fits the page; the crop itself is taken from the full-resolution image, using the X, Y, width and height shown in the fields. Those numbers are in the image's own pixels, not screen pixels.
Use an aspect ratio when the result has to fit a frame: 1:1 for a square avatar, 16:9 for a video thumbnail, 4:3 or 3:2 for common photo shapes, 9:16 for a vertical story. The box keeps that shape as you resize it, and typing a width or height updates the other.
Tips
- Crop first, then reduce the size with Resize image and Compress image.
- Photo turned the wrong way? Rotate image fixes it.
- Making an icon from part of a picture? Crop to 1:1, then use the Favicon generator.
Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The crop is made in your browser from the file on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I use the keyboard instead of the mouse?
Yes. Focus the crop box (Tab to it, or click it), then use the arrow keys to move it and Shift with the arrow keys to resize it. The X, Y, width and height fields also take exact pixel values.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
The pixels inside the box are copied as they are, at full resolution, not the screen-sized preview. JPEG and WebP are saved again at quality 92, so there is a small amount of re-compression; PNG stays lossless.
Which format is the result?
The same as the original: PNG stays PNG, JPEG stays JPEG and WebP stays WebP. GIF, BMP and AVIF are saved as PNG (a GIF becomes its first frame).
What do the aspect presets do?
They lock the box to a width-to-height ratio such as 1:1 for a square or 16:9 for a widescreen frame, and keep it that way while you resize. Choose Free to crop to any shape.
Is EXIF data kept?
No. The cropped file is a new image without camera or GPS metadata, saved in the orientation it displays in.
