How to convert PNG to PDF
- Choose your PNG files, or drag them onto the page. Put them in page order with the arrows.
- Keep Fit to image so each page matches its screenshot, or pick A4 or US Letter for printing.
- Press Create PDF, then download the file.
PNG screenshots and scans as one PDF
Screenshots of a receipt, a conversation or a set of slides are easier to send, archive and print as a single PDF than as a folder of images. PNG is the format most screenshot tools save in, and because it is lossless, PDF can carry it without any change: the pixels are compressed with the same kind of lossless method and placed on the page.
The order of the list is the order of the pages. Long screenshots become long pages with Fit to image; with a paper size they are scaled down to fit, so very tall captures may print small and are best split first.
Tips
- Adding the result to an existing document? Use Merge PDF.
- Got the order wrong after saving? Fix it with Reorder PDF pages.
- Turning photos into a PDF? JPG to PDF keeps JPG files compact.
Questions
Is the PNG recompressed or blurred?
No. PNG pixels go into the PDF losslessly, so text in screenshots and lines in diagrams stay exactly as sharp as in the original files. With Fit to image each pixel becomes one point on the page, which prints at about 72 pixels per inch; zooming in a viewer shows the full detail.
What happens to transparent areas?
They stay transparent. The PNG is stored with its alpha channel, so on a white PDF page they look white, and if you print on coloured paper the paper shows through. If you want a solid colour behind the image, flatten it first with PNG to JPG and a background colour.
Why is my PDF so large?
Lossless storage keeps every pixel, so a PDF made of big photos saved as PNG can be many megabytes. For photos, converting them to JPG first, or using JPG to PDF with JPG originals, makes a much smaller PDF. Screenshots and scans of text usually compress well and stay small.
Which page size should I use?
Fit to image is best for screenshots and on-screen reading because there are no margins to waste. A4 or US Letter scale each image to fit the page, centred and in proportion, which is what you want for printing or sending a scanned document.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The PDF is put together in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library, on your device.
