What phone number validation APIs cost over x402
Snapshot 2026-10-10
An agent can send a phone number to an endpoint that parses it, checks it against a country's numbering plan and returns a standard form, and pay for the call over x402. We index the x402 Bazaar and PayAI daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 24 distinct priced phone number parse or validate offers, on 23 hosts. The median is USD 0.005 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.06. Tanod charges USD 0.001 per call, which is the lowest price listed and below the median: 0 listings are lower, 3 list the same and 21 are higher. The comparison is not like for like. Tanod checks the number against the numbering plan offline and does not look up whether it is in service, who holds it now or how risky it is; three listings add a risk score or a reachability field, and one listing takes batches of up to 50 numbers while Tanod takes one number per call. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints or checked their accuracy.
Median listed x402 price for phone number validation: USD 0.005 per call across 24 offers on 23 hosts (snapshot 2026-10-10). Tanod: USD 0.001 (at the lowest listed price, below the median).

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy or uptime. Where listings name a method, eight name Google libphonenumber metadata or its port, the same family of data as Tanod; the rest do not say. Two listings return a risk or fraud score (api.agentstools.dev/phone/intel and api.qonoro.ai) and one reports reachability and a caller name (x402.orthogonal.com).

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar and PayAI, queried 2026-10-10 (newest listing seen 2026-10-09T04:31:37Z), listings last seen on or after 2026-10-07. Internal-only sources, Circle-sourced rows and Tanod's own routes are not used.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose URL, name or description combines phone with number, validate, parse, lookup, check or format wording, or names E.164, MSISDN, libphonenumber, HLR or line type, or has a phone route path. About 130 distinct URLs matched and were reviewed by name and description. Only endpoints that take one phone number and return whether it is valid or plausible, with a parsed or normalised form, were kept: 24 offers on 23 hosts.
- Excluded: SMS sending and receiving, number rental and calls (
palmyr.ai,api.phoneagent.xyz,blockrun.ai,crier.vimabrosta.com), phone-number extraction from text or web pages, PII redaction, contact finders and lead enrichment, KYC and trust scores that include a phone among other inputs (trustscore.dev,hubvibe-io.com/work/identity/check,factline.dev/v1/kyc/check,numberintel.dev/v1/trust), dial-code and area-code tables, formatters that strip or reshape digits without validating (api.delx.aiphone-digits and phone-e164-normalize,x402-zoo.lolagent.workers.dev/api/normalize-phone), and two routes with no description that we could not classify:agent402.tools/api/phone-format(USD 0.001) andcloud.hyrule.host/v1/voip/number/lookup(USD 0.05). A looser rule would find more, and a stricter one fewer. - Carrier and line-status lookups that do not state a validity check are listed separately and not counted:
x402.orthogonal.com/phone-intelligence/v1(USD 0.005: carrier, line type, location, risk score and breach data),percallapi.com/carrier-lookup(USD 0.01, Twilio carrier, network codes and line type),percallapi.com/caller-id(USD 0.04, caller name and live line status),numberintel.dev/v1/carrier(USD 0.02, US carrier of record) andapi.strale.io/x402/phone-type-detect(USD 0.0216, line type only). Tanod returns the carrier of the original range holder only and does not look up current carrier, line status or caller name. Listings that validate and also add carrier or reachability data are counted. - Deduplicated by URL; near-duplicate routes on one host that share a template or backend are counted once (the five templated phone routes on
agentshelf.syntexa.ch, represented by the E.164 check at USD 0.001, the Spanish route onapi.vextorium.com, the bulk route onnumberintel.dev, and listings that appear on both indexes). Hosts are counted by host name. Listed price is the first payment requirement; some endpoints may charge differently by input. Percentiles are linear interpolation between ranks. Median of 24 prices is the average of the 12th and 13th values (both 0.005).
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/phone takes a number of 1 to 64 printable characters, in international form (+CC ...) or in national form with a region (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2, such as US). It runs python-phonenumbers 9.0.40 (Apache-2.0, a port of Google's libphonenumber) offline and returns valid (fits the country's numbering plan) and possible (plausible length), the E.164, international, national and RFC 3966 forms, the country calling code, region, type (mobile, fixed_line, toll_free and others), the carrier that originally held the number range, location, time zones and any extension. Valid does not mean assigned, in service or reachable; ported numbers are not detected; type can be fixed_line_or_mobile where the plan does not tell them apart. A string that is not a phone number, or a national form without a region, is a 422 that is not charged. There is no batch route, no risk score and no live lookup. It typically answers in under 0.1 s. The number is processed in memory and not logged or stored. It costs USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. 10 free calls per IP per UTC day are shared with the other utilpeek tools. The MCP tool is parse_phone_number at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the phone number validation API guide.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You send lists: one listing takes up to 50 numbers per call and another has a separate bulk route for up to 100 US numbers; Tanod takes one number per call.
- You need a risk or fraud score with the number: two listings return one. Tanod returns none.
- You need a live check that the line is reachable or the caller name: one listing says it returns both, and separate carrier lookups (see Method) offer current line status. Tanod is offline and checks the numbering plan only.
- You need the current carrier after number porting: Tanod returns the original range holder only.
When Tanod fits
- You want the lowest listed price, USD 0.001 per call (two listings charge the same), with a free allowance for trying it.
- You want a documented offline method with a named library and version, a stated meaning of valid, and no third-party call that could fail or see the number.
- You want E.164, national, international and RFC 3966 forms, type, location and time zones from one call.
