What IBAN and VAT number validation costs over x402
Snapshot 2026-10-10
An agent can buy an IBAN, BIC or EU VAT number check by the call over x402: send one identifier and get back valid or invalid, often with country or bank fields. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 124 distinct priced IBAN or BIC validation offers on 32 hosts (median USD 0.005 per call) and 57 distinct priced EU VAT number validation offers on 26 hosts (median USD 0.005 per call). Tanod charges USD 0.001 per call for both, and its VAT kind checks format and check digits only; it makes no VIES call. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name; we have not tested the endpoints.

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy or freshness. One host, agentshelf.syntexa.ch, lists 98 of the 181 URLs, one per country: 77 IBAN country checks, one BIC check and 20 VAT country checks, each priced between USD 0.001 and USD 0.01, so the histogram leans toward that spread. Without it, the IBAN and BIC median is USD 0.003 (46 offers) and the VAT median is USD 0.005 (37 offers). Listings also differ in what they check. Of the VAT listings, 19 name a VIES check and four say they check format only, such as chainverdict.xyz and api.vextorium.com/v1/eu-vat-validate; the remainder either do not say or check a national register. Six listings on vat.openverbs.com check VAT numbers against national registers, one country per URL. Some IBAN listings add bank lookups, which is a different product from a checksum.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar, queried 2026-10-10 (newest listing seen 2026-10-09T04:31:37Z). Internal-only sources and Tanod's own routes are not used.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose name or URL mentions IBAN, BIC, SWIFT, VIES or VAT. That returned 313 distinct URLs, which were reviewed by name.
- Excluded: VAT rate lookups and VAT calculators, cross-border VAT treatment engines, a country-facts endpoint on one host whose dozens of listings only mention VAT in a shared description, company enrichment, KYB and supplier-screening bundles that include a VAT or IBAN step, text redaction and extraction tools, IBAN generators and QR builders, sanctions screens on a bank account, payee-name matching, a Spanish account-number (CCC) check, a mixed batch validator for IBAN, VAT, BIC, LEI and ISIN, and unrelated hits such as a medical calculator. A looser rule would find more.
- Deduplicated by URL (one chainverdict.xyz IBAN URL appears twice with the path parameter written two ways and is counted once). Listed price is the first payment requirement; some endpoints may charge differently by input. The median of 124 IBAN and BIC prices and of 57 VAT prices is read from the sorted list.
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/validate takes a kind and a value (1 to 64 printable ASCII characters). The kinds include iban, bic and vat (EU), plus isbn, issn, ean, isin, lei, imo, a generic Luhn check and national formats such as gb_vat, de_idnr and fr_siren. It returns valid, a reason when not valid (for example invalid_checksum or invalid_length), the compact and formatted forms and a kind-specific detail, such as an IBAN's country and bank code. The check is offline and covers format and check digits only: a valid result does not mean the account or the VAT registration exists or is active. The vat kind does not call VIES, so it does not confirm that a VAT number is registered; for that, a listing above that names a VIES check is a different product. An invalid identifier is a normal answer and is charged; a malformed request returns 422 and is not charged. Payment card numbers are not accepted. Tanod does not log or store the submitted value. The price is USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. The MCP tool is validate_identifier at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the IBAN validation guide and the VAT number validation guide.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You need to know a VAT number is registered: listings that name a live VIES check, such as aayatai.com or api.vextorium.com/v1/eu-vat-vies, return registration status and often the company name. Tanod checks format and check digits only.
- You need bank lookups: some listings return bank name or branch data from reference data, or validate up to 2000 IBANs in one call. Tanod takes one identifier per call and returns the country and bank code parsed from the IBAN itself.
- You need one country's register: some listings check a single country's VAT numbers against its national register.
