What DNS lookup APIs cost over x402

Snapshot 2026-10-10

An agent can look up the DNS records of a domain by the call over x402. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 85 distinct priced DNS record lookup offers on 58 hosts, the median is USD 0.005 per call, the lowest is USD 0.0005 and the highest USD 0.1. Tanod charges USD 0.01 for the default inspection (DNS records, email authentication and the TLS certificate) and USD 0.004 when you ask for the DNS section alone. At USD 0.01 we are above the median: 57 listings are lower, 23 are the same and 5 are higher. At USD 0.004, 38 are lower, 1 is the same and 46 are higher. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints, and they differ a lot in which record types they return (see below).

Median listed x402 price for DNS record lookup: USD 0.005 per call across 85 offers on 58 hosts (snapshot 2026-10-10). Tanod: USD 0.01 for the default inspection (above the median) and USD 0.004 for the DNS section alone.

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy, resolver quality or uptime. The listings are not like for like. Many return a set of record types in one call (typically A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, SOA and CAA); some take a record type as a parameter and so can return SRV, PTR or DNSSEC records; some sell one route per record type, so one host can supply several offers. Some add parsed SPF and DMARC, the mail provider or several resolvers to the same answer.

Method

Where Tanod fits

POST /v1/domain/inspect takes a domain and an optional checks list (a subset of dns, email and tls; all three by default). The dns section returns the A, AAAA, NS, MX and CAA records of the name, each list capped, and a count of its TXT records. The email section reads the TXT records for SPF, DMARC, DKIM selectors and MTA-STS and scores them out of 8; the tls section returns the certificate. The call costs USD 0.01 for the default, or USD 0.004 for exactly one section, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. 5 free calls per IP per UTC day are shared with the other dnspeek routes. The MCP tool is inspect_domain at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the SPF, DMARC and DKIM check guide.
