What WHOIS and RDAP lookups cost over x402
Snapshot 2026-10-10
An agent can buy a WHOIS or RDAP domain lookup by the call over x402: send a domain, get back registrar, dates, status and nameservers. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 51 distinct priced WHOIS or RDAP lookup offers on 47 hosts, the median is USD 0.005 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.400. Tanod charges USD 0.002 per RDAP call, which also covers IP addresses and AS numbers. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name; we have not tested the endpoints.

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy or freshness. Listings differ in what they return: some give the parsed RDAP record, some raw WHOIS text, and a few add extra fields such as SEO metrics. A few take several domains per call, so a per-call price is not always a per-domain price.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar, queried 2026-10-10 (newest listing seen 2026-10-09T04:31:37Z). Internal-only sources and Tanod's own routes are not used.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose name or URL mentions whois or rdap. That returned 364 rows on 241 distinct URLs, which were reviewed by name.
- Excluded: per-TLD registry information pages (about 120 URLs on one host), IP and AS number lookups, domain availability checks, domain age checks, change watches, DNS-only tools, and multi-purpose reports, trust scores and audits in which WHOIS or RDAP is one field among many. A looser rule would find more.
- Deduplicated by URL. Listed price is the first payment requirement; some endpoints may charge differently by input. Median of 51 prices is the 26th value (0.005).
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/rdap takes a query, which can be a domain, an IPv4 or IPv6 address or an AS number, and returns registration data from the authoritative RDAP server named by the IANA bootstrap registry: registrar, dates, status, nameservers, DNSSEC and abuse contact for a domain; network, organization and country for an IP or AS number. It costs USD 0.002 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. The MCP tool is rdap_lookup at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the WHOIS (RDAP) lookup guide.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You want the lowest listed price: three listings are USD 0.001 per call, against Tanod's USD 0.002, though we have not tested them.
- You need raw WHOIS text rather than RDAP JSON: some listings say they return it. Tanod returns RDAP data only.
- You look up many domains in one call: a few listings take up to 10 domains per call. Tanod takes one query per call.
When Tanod fits
- You need domains, IP addresses and AS numbers from one route, rather than a domain-only endpoint.
- You want the registry's own RDAP answer, with an explicit error when a TLD has no RDAP server or the registry has no record.
- You want a free start: 5 free calls per IP per UTC day, a pool shared with domain inspection, email verification and IP lookup, with the header
X-Tanod-Free: 1.
curl -s -X POST https://tanod.dev/v1/rdap \

/v1/rdap USD 0.002 per call, 5 free calls per IP per UTC day (a pool shared with domain inspection, email verification and IP lookup). Paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. MCP tool: rdap_lookup at https://tanod.dev/mcp.
