What address poisoning checks cost over x402
Updated 2026-10-13
Snapshot 2026-10-13
Address poisoning is a scam in which an attacker sends a tiny or zero-value transfer from an address that shares the first and last characters of one you use, hoping you copy it from your history next time. An agent can check a recipient for it by the call over x402 before it pays. We index the x402 Bazaar and PayAI daily, so here is what those listings charge as of 2026-10-13. The short version: we found 19 distinct priced address poisoning and lookalike check offers on 13 hosts, the median is USD 0.02 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.5. Tanod charges USD 0.002 per call, so 2 listings are lower, 2 are the same and 15 are higher. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints, and they check different things.
Median listed x402 price for an address poisoning or lookalike address check: USD 0.02 per call across 19 offers on 13 hosts (snapshot 2026-10-13). Tanod: USD 0.002 per call.

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy. The listings differ in what they read. Three compare the recipient only with a list of addresses you supply and read no chain (no history needed, so no lookback limit); others read the sender's transfers on one chain; and several fold the poisoning check into a wider address risk score, so a price here is not always a price for the same work. Five of the 19 offers are tiers of one host's address risk route, and two other hosts list two routes each.
Which address poisoning check listings agents actually pay
The Bazaar also reports, per listing, how many distinct wallets paid it and how many paid calls it served in the last 30 days. On 2026-10-13 the most-paid listing in this table had 4 paying wallets and 6 paid calls; the one with the most paid calls served 36 (3 wallets). No listing in this set served more than 36 paid calls, and every one of the 19 has at least one. Listed prices in the table run from USD 0.002 to 0.1. Our own address poisoning listing is not in the index yet, so it has no count here.

Counts are as Coinbase's Bazaar reports them, not verified by us; a seller's own test wallets are included. Ranked by paying wallets, then paid calls; the table shows the seven listings with 3 or more paying wallets. The listings named for poisoning or lookalikes alone served few calls apart from the one above; most paid traffic is in broader address risk checks. Every listing's counts are in the CC BY 4.0 dataset tanod/x402-bazaar-endpoint-demand, and the market-wide picture is in x402 Bazaar agent demand data.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar and PayAI, queried 2026-10-13 (newest listing seen 2026-10-13T04:53:34Z), listings last seen in the 3 days up to the snapshot. Circle-sourced rows, Tanod's own routes and hosts the index flags as bulk or templated listing farms (at least 100 listings and a score of 0.5 or more) are not used; that removed no address check offer.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose name, URL or description mentions poison or poisoning, lookalike or look-alike, address spoofing, vanity addresses, zero-value transfers, dust, address similarity, or the first 4 and last 4 characters of an address. That returned 60 distinct URLs, which were reviewed one by one by name and description. Only endpoints that check a recipient or address for poisoning or lookalikes, or whose description says they cover address poisoning, were kept: 19 offers on 13 hosts.
- Dropped, 41 URLs, counts only: 17 unrelated matches (company lookalike lead lists, medical calculators, text and schema tools); 9 agent, MCP, CI pipeline and package scanners that use the word poisoning in another sense; 6 domain, URL and brand lookalike checks; 4 payment verification and generic wallet or trade risk routes whose description does not cover address poisoning; 3 token contract checks; 2 threat feeds that list known malicious addresses but do not check a given recipient. A second pass over pre-send, payee and recipient wording found 92 further distinct URLs (sanctions screens, address validators, gas and contract lookups, email checks); none of their descriptions mentions poisoning or lookalikes, so none is counted. A looser rule would find more, and a stricter one fewer.
- Deduplicated by URL, and a second path for one operation (same host, description and price) counted once. Where one host lists several routes, each is an offer and the host counts once. Listed price is the lowest per URL; some endpoints may charge differently by input. Percentiles are linear interpolation between ranks. Median of 19 prices is the 10th value, 0.02.
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/chain/address-poisoning checks a recipient before you pay it. Send the sending wallet (from) and the recipient (to); it reads from's transfers of one token (USDC by default) over the latest 2,000 blocks, in both directions, and looks for addresses that share the first 4 and last 4 hex characters with to. You can add up to 100 contacts, addresses you trust, and to is compared with them too. The answer is a risk of high, medium or low with reasons and transaction evidence (lookalike addresses with tx hash, block, amount and direction, and whether to was paid before or appears only in zero-value or dust transfers). It costs USD 0.002 per call on base, ethereum or robinhood (Robinhood Chain needs a token contract address), paid in USDC on Base, Polygon, Solana, BNB Chain or Arbitrum with x402. The MCP tool is check_address_poisoning at https://tanod.dev/mcp/security. Details are in the address poisoning guide. It is read-only (nothing is signed or sent), a heuristic and not a guarantee that a recipient is the intended one.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You need to catch an old poisoning: Tanod reads only the latest 2,000 blocks of one token, about 67 minutes of Base history by default (about 6.7 hours on Ethereum). A lookalike planted last week, or one in another token, is not seen. Listings that say they read a longer or full history, such as the one at USD 0.005 whose index call is described as usually covering the full Base USDC history, are better for that, if they perform as described.
- You want the lowest listed price: two listings are USD 0.001 per call, against Tanod's USD 0.002, though we have not tested them.
- You want a wider risk verdict in one call: several listings fold sanctions, scam lists and contract signals in with the poisoning check. Tanod's answer is about poisoning and lookalikes only; pair it with a sanctions screen if you need both.
- You hold a fixed address book and no wallet history: listings that compare against a list you supply read no chain and have no lookback limit. Tanod can do the same with
lookback_blocksset to 0 andcontactsfilled in, at the same USD 0.002.
When Tanod fits
- You want the check to use the sender's real recent history and your trusted contacts together, with transaction evidence for each lookalike.
- You want a risk level (high, medium, low) with reasons an agent can act on, and no charge when the address is bad or the read fails: a malformed address, an unknown token or
toequal tofromis a 422, and a failed read is a 502, both before any payment. - You want one host for the check plus ENS, balances, tokens, transactions, sanctions and phishing URL checks, paid the same way.
- You want a free start: 10 chain reads per IP per UTC day, a pool shared by every chainpeek read, with the header
X-Tanod-Free: 1(automatic over MCP).
curl -s -X POST https://tanod.dev/v1/chain/address-poisoning \

/v1/chain/address-poisoning USD 0.002 per call, with 10 free chain reads per IP per UTC day (a pool shared by every chainpeek read). Chains: base, ethereum, robinhood (robinhood needs a token contract). Lookback: the latest 2,000 blocks of one token's transfers, plus up to 100 contacts. Paid in USDC on Base, Polygon, Solana, BNB Chain or Arbitrum with x402. MCP tool: check_address_poisoning at https://tanod.dev/mcp/security.
