How to check if a crypto address is on the OFAC sanctions list

POST the address to /v1/sanctions. The answer says whether it appears in the US OFAC SDN list of digital currency addresses, with the matching entries and the date of the list copy. That is the only list it checks.

Request

EVM (0x) and bech32 addresses match case-insensitively; BTC, TRX and other formats must be given exactly as listed.

curl, using the free tier
curl -s -X POST https://tanod.dev/v1/sanctions \
  -H 'X-Tanod-Free: 1' -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"address":"0x098B716B8Aaf21512996dC57EB0615e2383E2f96"}'

Limits and caveats

Scope. Only the digital currency address identifiers published in the US Treasury OFAC SDN list, as of list_date. There are no other lists (other jurisdictions, other OFAC lists), no clustering and no exposure or ownership analysis.

A non-match does not clear an address. matched: false means the address is not in that list copy, nothing more. A new designation after list_date will not show.

Not legal advice and not a full sanctions or AML compliance check. Verify any match on the official OFAC sanctions search at sanctionssearch.ofac.treas.gov before acting on it.
