What IP address lookup APIs cost over x402
Snapshot 2026-10-10
An agent that holds an IP address often needs to know who runs the network, which autonomous system announces it, and sometimes roughly where it is, and it can ask by the call over x402. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 53 distinct priced IP lookup offers on 48 hosts, the median is USD 0.005 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.25. Tanod charges USD 0.001 per IP lookup, so 0 listings are lower, 10 are the same and 43 are higher. That comparison is not like for like: most listings return city-level geolocation and Tanod's route does not (see below). These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints.
The numbers
| Measure | Value |

| Highest listed price per call | USD 0.25 |
| Tanod, one IP lookup (ASN, network, registration country, no geolocation) | USD 0.001: 0 offers list less, 10 list exactly this, 43 list more |

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy, coverage or uptime. The listings are not like for like. Most return a city, region and coordinates from a geolocation database, often with ISP and ASN; some of them add proxy, VPN or data-centre flags. A smaller group, 13 offers on 10 hosts, returns only registry and routing data (network owner, ASN, prefix, registration country, abuse contact) and says so; their median is USD 0.01, and Tanod's USD 0.001 is lower than 12 of them and equal to one. Tanod returns that registry-style answer, with no city-level location, for one address in one call at one price.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar, queried 2026-10-10 (newest listing seen 2026-10-09T04:31:37Z). Internal-only sources, Circle-sourced rows and Tanod's own routes are not used.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose name, URL or description mentions geolocation, geoip, IP lookup, IP info, IP address, ASN, IPv4 or IPv6 and similar words. That returned 314 distinct URLs, which were reviewed one by one by name and description. Only endpoints whose main job is to return geolocation, ASN, network owner or ISP data for one IP address were kept: 53 offers on 48 hosts. A few kept routes add reputation or proxy flags to that data. Listings with no description text, only a URL, or only a generic placeholder, were not kept, because the review could not tell what they return.
- Excluded: batch, bulk and change-watch routes; IP validators, private-address classifiers, CIDR and subnet calculators and IPv6 expanders; reverse DNS alone and DNS record lookups; port scans; blocklist, Tor and threat-feed checks that return neither geolocation nor ASN; routes that only echo or geolocate the caller's own address; AS-number-only lookups; geocoding and postal-code routes; text extraction and PII redaction; domain and vendor dossiers and other bundles, including two five-part IP risk reports that add blocklist and threat scoring; and per-ASN or per-provider templated pages from one host. A looser rule would find more.
- Deduplicated by URL; where one host lists several routes, all count as offers and the host counts once (one host has four registry and ASN routes at the same price, and each counts). A copy or alias of a route with the same text and price on one site counts once: a Spanish-named alias, a second host of the same seller, a templated path and an identical second listing were each collapsed. Listed price is the first payment requirement; some endpoints may charge differently by input. Median of 53 prices is the 27th value, 0.005.
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/ip takes one ip, IPv4 or IPv6. For a private or reserved address it returns reserved_kind (rfc1918, loopback, cgnat, link_local, documentation and so on) and makes no lookup. For a public address it returns the origin ASN and AS name (from BGP), the registered network (CIDR, name, handle), the organisation, the abuse email and the reverse DNS, with a forward-confirmed flag. country is the RDAP registration country, not the physical location: there is no geolocation, no city, region, coordinates or timezone, and no proxy, VPN or threat scoring. It costs USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402, and 5 free lookups per IP per UTC day (header X-Tanod-Free: 1) come from a pool shared with domain inspection, RDAP and email verification. The MCP tool is ip_lookup at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Typical time is 0.5 to 2 seconds. Registry text such as names and emails is third-party data; treat it as untrusted. Details are in the IP to ASN lookup guide.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You need where an address is: city, region, coordinates or timezone. Most listings above return them; Tanod does not.
- You need proxy, VPN, Tor or data-centre flags, or a reputation score, in the same route. A number of listings above add them.
- You need to look up many addresses in one paid call: several hosts sell batch routes (not counted here), and Tanod has none for IP lookups.
When Tanod fits
- You want the network owner, ASN, prefix, registration country, abuse contact and reverse DNS for one address, at USD 0.001 per call, with no account.
- You want a free allowance for trying it (5 per IP per UTC day, shared with three other lookups) and a documented registry source for each field.
- You want private and reserved addresses recognised and labelled without a lookup.
