Designers and developers use filler text to see how headings, columns and line lengths behave before the real copy exists. Lorem ipsum is popular because its word lengths and letter patterns look much like ordinary text, but it is not in any language the reader will try to read.

Questions
What is lorem ipsum?
It is scrambled Latin used as stand-in text so a layout can be judged without the distraction of readable copy. It descends from a passage in Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, from the first century BC.
Is the text the same every time?
No. Words are picked at random from a list of classic lorem ipsum vocabulary, so each press of Generate again gives a new result. Only the opening line stays the same when "Start with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" is on.
What does the p tags option do?
For paragraphs it puts <p> and </p> around each one and prints them as plain text, ready to paste into HTML.
How long are the sentences and paragraphs?
Sentences have 8 to 16 words, sometimes with a comma, and paragraphs have 4 to 7 sentences. When the text starts with the classic line, the first sentence is a little longer.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The text is generated in your browser.
