Shopify local-delivery eligibility: a checkout checklist
Updated
Use when a synthetic cart is missing a local-delivery option and you need to isolate a supplied inventory, zone or method mismatch. A local worksheet cannot confirm live inventory, geocoding, checkout eligibility or Shopify's pricing. It is not an order estimate and cannot replace a fresh native checkout test.
Compare sanitized settings locally
The free Shopify local-delivery eligibility check accepts a sanitized location snapshot and synthetic cart JSON. It uploads nothing, makes no processing requests and saves no store data. Load the example, then substitute synthetic keys and quantities. Never enter customer addresses, real orders or merchant identifiers.
One location must cover the physical cart
Shopify requires all physical products to be eligible for delivery from one location and that location to have inventory for the entire order. Configure local delivery separately for every location, and check that the location is stocked and can fulfill online orders. Stock split across two locations does not satisfy this check. The worksheet adds quantities across repeated lines for one item key, counts missing inventory as zero and does not pool locations. Non-physical items do not demand delivery stock in this model; test a mixed physical/digital cart natively. [1]
Test postal and radius coverage separately
Postal delivery requires the customer to be in the same country and within the configured codes. Shopify documents prefixes ending in an asterisk or space, as well as country-specific postcode behavior. The worksheet supports exact codes and explicit prefixes only: it ignores spaces and case, preserves hyphens and does not infer an area from an unmarked partial code. Use complete synthetic codes or explicit prefixes and confirm their native meaning. [1]
For a radius, enter the known test distance from each location in one consistent unit; the worksheet never geocodes an address or calculates that distance. Shopify's maximum is 160 kilometers or 100 miles. The radius does not cross a country boundary. A different state or region requires the neighboring-regions setting; even with it on, this worksheet cannot confirm adjacency and marks that case for review. Shopify also needs address verification: a customer must choose a verified address from the suggestion list. A supplied distance alone cannot prove address eligibility. [1]
Keep minimum comparisons separate from pricing
Shopify lets a zone require a minimum order price. The help page does not specify the discount/tax basis for that comparison. Supply the value you want to test, using one currency throughout; the worksheet calculates no item prices, taxes, discounts, conversions or delivery fees. It flags below-minimum values and marks equality with a positive minimum for native boundary review rather than guessing the cutoff. If one zone fails, inspect the others. Shopify documents the lowest applicable delivery price for overlapping zones, but this worksheet does not calculate it. [1]
Do not borrow pickup rules for delivery
Shopify does not allow shipping some items and locally delivering others in one order; those need separate orders. Pickup is a different checkout method with separate per-location setup. Its page includes a checkout preview, optional store transfers and mixed shipping/pickup behavior. None of that makes pickup-enabled inventory a local-delivery candidate. The worksheet flags pickup-intended lines and pickup-only locations rather than treating them as delivery. [1, 2]
Fresh native checkout test checklist
- Use synthetic products and a test address. Verify current location enablement, online fulfillment and available physical-item stock in Shopify. Test all physical items at one location, then a split-stock case.
- Start a fresh native checkout for each case. Try a postal code inside and outside each zone, distances inside and outside each radius, and country/region boundaries. Select a verified address from the suggestions.
- Try a value below, exactly at and above each minimum, including a discount. Confirm the actual value basis and the applicable zone when zones overlap.
- Try an all-local-delivery cart separately from shipping and pickup. Use the native pickup checkout preview only for pickup, not as proof of delivery eligibility.
- Compare standard checkout and Shop Pay. Shopify says Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay or PayPal selected at the first checkout step can prevent local delivery. B2B checkout is unsupported for local delivery, though B2B draft orders can preselect it; third-party shipping apps can conflict. These are native checks, not conditions simulated by this worksheet. [1]
- Inspect what checkout actually offers. A worksheet candidate only clears its supplied checks; it does not promise a delivery method, charge, fulfillment decision or order total.
