What language detection APIs cost over x402

Snapshot 2026-10-10

An agent can send a piece of text to an endpoint that returns which language it is written in and pay for the call over x402. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 12 distinct priced language detection offers for text, on 11 hosts, so the figures below rest on a small sample. The median is USD 0.003 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.01. Tanod charges USD 0.001 per call, which is the lowest price listed and below the median: 0 listings are lower, 2 list the same and 10 are higher. The comparison is not like for like: Tanod covers 75 languages, while listings range from 20 to more than 180, and most do not say how accurate they are. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints.

Median listed x402 price for language detection: USD 0.003 per call across 12 offers on 11 hosts (snapshot 2026-10-10). Tanod: USD 0.001 (at the lowest listed price, below the median).

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy or uptime. With 12 offers a single listing moves the percentiles a lot. Where listings name a method, four use word lists, stop words or heuristics, one a statistical langdetect model and one a hosted model with a language-model fallback; the rest do not say.

Method

Where Tanod fits

POST /v1/text/language takes a text of up to 20,000 characters. It runs an offline ensemble of lingua-language-detector 2.1.1 (Apache-2.0, low-accuracy mode) and langid.py 1.1.6 (BSD-2-Clause) over 75 languages and returns the most likely language (ISO 639-1 and 639-3 code, name and confidence), 3 alternatives, and a reliable flag that is true only with at least 20 letters and a confidence of 0.6 or more. Short text is often flagged unreliable, text with no letters is a 422 that is not charged, and only the 75 supported languages can be returned. It does not detect mixed-language text segment by segment, take a URL, or return the script separately from the language. It typically answers in under 0.1 s (a few seconds on the worker's first call), runs on Tanod's own server without a language-model provider, and costs USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. 10 free calls per IP per UTC day are shared with the other utilpeek text and data tools. The MCP tool is detect_language at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the language detection API guide.
