What geocoding APIs cost over x402
Snapshot 2026-10-10
An agent can turn a place name or address into coordinates, or coordinates into a place, by the call over x402. We index the x402 Bazaar daily, so here is what those listings charge on 2026-10-10. The short version: we found 61 distinct priced geocoding offers on 45 hosts, the median is USD 0.003 per call, the lowest is USD 0.001 and the highest USD 0.06. Tanod charges USD 0.001 per geocode, so no listing is lower, 10 are the same and 51 are higher. These are listed prices, matched by keyword and reviewed by name and description; we have not tested the endpoints, and they differ a lot in what they cover (see below).

Prices are per call as listed, in USD, not a measure of accuracy, coverage or uptime. The listings are not like for like. Some geocode street addresses worldwide from OpenStreetMap, some only one country (the US, France, Spain, Japan or the Netherlands, usually from an official address database), and some, like Tanod, resolve only cities from a gazetteer. Some list forward and reverse as two routes, others as one route that does both.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the x402 Bazaar, queried 2026-10-10 (newest listing seen 2026-10-09T04:31:37Z). Internal-only sources, Circle-sourced rows and Tanod's own routes are not used.
- Match: listings with a price above zero whose name, URL or description mentions geocoding (also address-to-coordinates and coordinates-to-address wording). That returned about 140 distinct URLs, which were reviewed one by one by name and description. Only endpoints whose main job is forward or reverse geocoding were kept: 61 offers on 45 hosts.
- Excluded: IP geolocation, weather, sunrise and sun-position, trip-planning and other routes that geocode only as a step; US Census context lookups (county, tract, district, school district) and the persona-labelled variants of them from one host; place and business search; distance, geohash and other coordinate maths; batch geocoding routes priced per batch; postal-code lookups; and unrelated rows that matched only on a word such as address. A looser rule would find more.
- Deduplicated by URL; where one host lists a forward route and a reverse route, both count as offers and the host counts once. A route repeated under two URLs on one host with the same text and price (a versioned copy or a local-language alias) counts once. Listed price is the first payment requirement; some endpoints may charge differently by input. Median of 61 prices is the 31st value (0.003).
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/geocode takes either place (a city name, as "City" or "City, CC" with an ISO country code or a US state code) and returns up to 5 ranked candidates, or lat and lon and returns the nearest city with distance_km; exactly one form per call. It runs offline over the GeoNames cities15000 table (cities of 15,000 or more people) under CC BY 4.0, so it covers cities only and not street addresses. It costs USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402, and 10 free calls per IP per UTC day are shared with the other utilpeek routes. No match for a place is a 404 place_not_found and is not charged. The MCP tool is geocode at https://tanod.dev/mcp. Details are in the reverse geocoding API guide.
When a priced listing above is the better choice
- You need street addresses or house numbers: Tanod resolves cities only, and many listings above return structured addresses, postcodes or building-level matches.
- You need an official national address source for one country, such as the US Census geocoder or a national address base: several listings name one.
- You need places smaller than a 15,000-person city, or a result you can match to a postal address.
When Tanod fits
- You need to turn a city name into coordinates, country and timezone, or coordinates into the nearest city, for routing, weather or timezone steps.
- You want the price at the low end of the range, USD 0.001 per call, with a free allowance for trying it and the same pool shared with FX, QR and holidays routes.
- You want a documented, offline data source with a stated licence and an attribution field in each answer.

/v1/geocode USD 0.001 per call. Free: 10 utilpeek calls per IP per UTC day, shared with every utilpeek route (use the header X-Tanod-Free: 1). Paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. MCP tool: geocode at https://tanod.dev/mcp, where the free tier is automatic.
