State of the Agent Economy, week 41, 2026

A weekly count of publicly listed x402 paid endpoints and MCP servers: how many, what they charge, which networks they settle on, who lists them and, from the second edition on, what changed since last week. Week of 5 October to 11 October 2026.

Key findings

1. Size. 54,548 x402 listings across three discovery feeds (51,140 unique URLs on 2,918 hosts) and 40,256 servers in the Official MCP Registry.
2. Concentration. The ten largest hosts hold 57.6% of CDP Bazaar listings, 55.9% of PayAI's and 85.8% of Circle's.
3. Price. CDP Bazaar median price per call is $0.01; 27.9% of priced listings cost under one cent.
4. Networks. 99.2% of CDP Bazaar listings accept Base; 20.7% accept Solana.
5. MCP. 62.9% of Official MCP Registry servers are remote; 23,993 publisher namespaces.

Baseline edition. This is the first weekly snapshot, so there is nothing to compare it with yet. It describes the shape of the registries on 8 October 2026. Week-over-week changes (added and removed listings, price, network and host shifts, MCP Registry growth, new sellers) appear from the first edition built on or after 14 October 2026, which is six days after the earliest stored snapshot.

Methodology and limitations

Sources and snapshot times (UTC)

• Collection. Tanod's census (agentindex) stores one snapshot per source per UTC day; the CDP Bazaar, MCP Registry and Smithery figures come from its latest snapshot. The PayAI and Circle x402 discovery feeds are read live, unauthenticated and paged at a polite rate, when the edition is built. All five sources are public APIs.
• Weekly store. Each build stores a compact snapshot (listing identity keys and the computed aggregates). A comparison is made only against a stored snapshot at least 6 days older than the current one (the newest such snapshot). Until one exists the edition is a baseline.
• Identity and deduplication. x402 listings: normalized URL (lowercased host without www., path without trailing slash, query dropped), one per feed. MCP Registry: server name, latest version only. Smithery is a keyword-seeded sample with an unstable order, so it is shown by count and excluded from added/removed.
• Prices, networks, sellers. As in the monthly methodology: lowest mainnet USDC amount per listing at 6 decimals, testnets excluded from price figures; hostname of the resource URL as a proxy for the seller. "New hosts" are hostnames absent from all three x402 feeds in the earlier snapshot.
• Aggregates only. This page and its data files carry counts, shares and hostnames with listing counts; no per-record data and no assessment of any named party.

Limitations

• Listings are not usage, revenue or quality. A listing may be a test, a duplicate or offline, and a registry can drop or re-add entries for its own reasons (including temporary API windows).
• Registries are not the ecosystem; sellers using other facilitators, or none, are missing. Glama, PulseMCP, x402scan and others were not included because their APIs need a key or payment.
• A week is a short window. Small shifts in medians or shares can be noise; a feed that rolls a time window (such as the CDP Bazaar's apparent 30-day settlement window) will show churn that reflects activity, not growth.
• Names, URLs and descriptions are third-party text. Inclusion is not an endorsement of any service.
