Preview Shopify shipping-zone gaps before a checkout test

Published . Based on the official documentation linked below.

A “Shipping not available” message can reflect a destination, product, location or rate-condition mismatch. Start by checking configuration, then create a new native checkout to see the actual offered methods. A worksheet cannot establish live store behavior or reproduce Shopify's full rate-selection algorithm.

Open the free shipping-rate preflight. Use sanitized settings and synthetic cases only. Page assets load normally; checks make no processing requests. Inputs and results stay in page memory, with no Shopify connection, provider calls or store-data storage. No exact, combined or carrier-calculated rate prediction.

Check the market and destination zone separately

Shopify documents that customers in inactive markets cannot place orders even if their country is in a shipping zone with available rates. Confirm that the destination belongs to an active market, then inspect shipping-zone coverage in the relevant profile and origin group. A market and a shipping zone are different settings; neither substitutes for the other.

Inspect region-specific coverage, not only the country name. In the worksheet, exact synthetic keys are compared without country lookup. A region-restricted zone with an unknown test region remains unresolved. Several possible zones need native review rather than an invented selection rule.

Trace each physical product to its profile and fulfillment location

Confirm that each physical product belongs to the intended shipping profile. Within that profile, check that shipping zones and rates are assigned to the correct shipping origins. A rate attached elsewhere does not demonstrate that the location used for this checkout has a usable configured rate.

Check active location status, a valid address, online fulfillment and available inventory in Shopify. The worksheet records supplied active and online-fulfillment flags, but it does not check inventory, addresses, routing or product availability. It shows every listed location separately. If one location has gaps and another appears configured, the result needs review: the tool cannot assume which location Shopify uses.

Probe rate conditions without treating the worksheet as a quote

Review enabled flat rates and their price or weight conditions. Try values below, exactly at and above each boundary. The worksheet uses inclusive numerical comparisons against a supplied order value or weight; it does not calculate those values from products or quantities. Verify the native discount, tax, package and per-profile comparison basis, particularly for mixed-profile or split-fulfillment carts.

Carrier and app rates depend on a live provider response and additional settings. Inspect package dimensions, weights, service coverage, address validity, provider configuration and backup rates natively. A configured carrier entry is not a successful quote. The worksheet makes no provider request and leaves provider-only paths unresolved.

Do not add worksheet paths together to estimate a final shipping amount. Shopify can combine rates from different profiles and locations under rules this tool does not reproduce. Rate names, discounts, fulfillment allocation, market-specific settings and provider behavior need a native checkout test.

Start a new checkout after changing settings

Shopify's troubleshooting documentation says an abandoned checkout retains the rates from when it was created. Reopening an older test does not establish that current settings failed. Create a newly initiated checkout after the relevant changes.

The worksheet uses your configuration revision label and a “created after changes” flag to identify a stale or unknown test. Matching labels merely record your assertion; they do not prove freshness. Do not enter real checkout links, customer details, addresses, credentials or store identifiers.

Questions to answer in native checkout

  1. Does a fresh checkout's destination belong to the intended active market and the correct zone?
  2. Are the test products in the intended profiles, and are the actual fulfillment origins active, properly addressed, stocked and enabled for online orders?
  3. Does each rate's actual comparison basis match the order value, weight and package you expected?
  4. For mixed profiles or locations, what methods and amounts does Shopify actually offer? Test the products separately as well as together.
  5. Do carrier or app rates return successfully, and does the configured backup behavior work when a provider is unavailable?

“No obvious gaps” means only that the supplied worksheet clears its limited comparisons. It is not confirmed shipping eligibility, a quote or a guarantee of the platform's outcome. “Configuration gaps found” describes supplied incompatibilities, not proof that the live store refuses shipping.
