Live currency rate APIs sell monthly plans. We read the public pricing pages of 8 of them on 2026-10-24 and took each entry paid plan, billed monthly. If you use the whole allowance, a call costs from USD 0.000018 to USD 0.001499; the median is USD 0.000666. Tanod's live FX route has no plan: USD 0.002 per call, paid with x402, no account.

The stated update interval is how often the vendor says it refreshes, not measured latency. Vendors count calls differently, and one call may return every currency. Free tiers are often limited to non-commercial use; check the terms. fastFOREX lists bid and ask on higher plans; we did not find them stated for the others. MCP is common now: 4 of the 8 offer a server, all with an account.
Where Tanod fits
POST /v1/fx/live returns bid, ask and mid from public stablecoin pools on Base for EUR, GBP, MXN, BRL, CAD, SGD, ZAR and IDR against USD, with the price impact at your trade size, the pool, the block and the ECB rate with its date. When a plan above is the better choice
- You need more than 13 pairs: these APIs cover 160 or more currencies.
- You call often. Above about 4,995 calls a month, the cheapest entry plan (USD 9.99) costs less than USD 0.002 a call.
- A free tier covers your volume and its terms allow your use.
When Tanod fits
- You want the on-chain price with bid, ask and price impact by trade size, plus its pool and block.
- You want no signup, no key and no monthly fee: an agent pays each call with x402, and 10 free calls per IP per UTC day are shared with the other utility routes.
- You call a few thousand times a month or less.
