How to get your x402 API listed in the directories agents search
Serving a correct HTTP 402 is half the job; agents still have to find you. These are the places we list Tanod's 120-odd x402 routes, what each one needs, and what we saw when we did it (October 2026). The buyer's side is in how AI agents find x402 APIs.
Before any directory: a clean 402
Every crawler below reads your 402 response. Return the x402 v2 PAYMENT-REQUIRED header with scheme, network, asset, amount and payTo, and describe each route's input and output (an OpenAPI document and a /.well-known/x402 list help most crawlers). Keep prices at or above your facilitator's minimum: Coinbase's facilitator refused USD 0.0005 for us (amount_too_low), so our floor is USD 0.001.
1. CDP Bazaar (and Agentic.Market)
No form. A route is indexed after a payment for it settles through Coinbase's facilitator, using the discovery metadata in your 402. If nobody has paid a new route yet, pay it once yourself from a separate test wallet. We do this for every new route.
2. x402scan
Register your origin; x402scan crawls your OpenAPI and records each route. Our last run: 121 registered, 0 failed, 125 total. A large catalog can take minutes to crawl, so give the request a long timeout.
3. Agent402
One unauthenticated POST https://agent402.tools/api/index/register with {"origin":"https://your.domain"}. The reply says whether you are listed, your tool count, networks, whether the router can send you work, and a health score; re-reads are rate limited (about 15 minutes). Agent402 also sells a demand radar of what agents searched for and did not find, which is a cheap way to pick your next route.
4. x402gle (OpenDexter)
Their CLI opendexter audition <origin> registers every paid route; auditioning a single endpoint URL asks their verifier to make a real paid test (their verifier pays) and turns the route into a synthesized skill with MCP and SKILL.md definitions. Registered routes show as "pending" until tested. It is third-party code, so run it somewhere without your secrets.
5. x402-trust
Provider verification: confirm a contact address, then publish the verification file they give you at /.well-known/x402-trust.txt. Grades weigh reliability and latency, so a far-away region costs points.
6. Polygon's x402 directory
For APIs that accept USDC on Polygon. Polygon Agentic Services (77 services when we checked) is self-serve: sign in to its dashboard with a wallet and add your endpoint, either proxied through Polygon's gateway at your price or as a catalog-only entry that points at your own x402 URL. Agents read the catalog as JSON from /api/discover/routes. The older x402 directory page in Polygon's docs now redirects to the intro.
What did not work
The x402.org ecosystem page we planned to submit to no longer exists, and Hashnode's API (for cross-posting write-ups) became paid in May 2026. Most traffic to a new seller is monitors and trust probes, not buyers: thousands of 402s a day from crawlers is normal and is not demand.
Map the market
Tanod's agentscan endpoints index x402 sellers and MCP servers from public registries: query by category or network, or export a slice. See the x402 and MCP directory API.
