Crypto Fear and Greed Index API: value, label and 7-day history

POST an empty object to /v1/markets/fear-greed and get the Crypto Fear & Greed Index of alternative.me: today's value from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed), its label (Extreme Fear, Fear, Neutral, Greed or Extreme Greed) and the last seven daily values. It answers "what is the crypto market mood" in one cheap call. The same block is also the fear_greed section of the macro snapshot, next to Treasury yields, FX, EFFR, SOFR and oil and gas spot.

Attribution

alternative.me allows commercial use of the index as long as the attribution is given right next to the display of the data. That is why attribution and source are inside the reply, in the same object as value. If you show the number to people, show the attribution line with it. Tanod is not affiliated with alternative.me and the service is not theirs.

How fresh it is

The index is published once a day, so the number changes once a day. Tanod refreshes its own copy once an hour and your call reads that copy; nothing is fetched from alternative.me when you call. stale turns true if the copy is more than 6 hours old. If the copy is missing or older than three days the call is a 503 and is not charged. Values are passed through unmodified. Informational only, not investment advice.

Price and free allowance

USD 0.001 per call, paid in USDC on Base or Polygon with x402. 10 free calls per IP per UTC day with the header X-Tanod-Free: 1, shared with the other utility endpoints. MCP tool: get_crypto_fear_greed_index at https://tanod.dev/mcp, where the free tier is automatic.
