Convert to PDF or Word: API prices for agents
Snapshot 2026-10-07
An agent that produces a document usually needs it as a PDF to send or archive, or as an editable Word file to hand back to a person. On the x402 marketplace these conversions are sold per call, and we index the listings. This page counts only endpoints whose output is a PDF or a Word or other editable office file — a web page, HTML, Markdown or an office file rendered to PDF, or a PDF turned into a .docx. It leaves out the much larger crowd of tools that read a document the other way, into Markdown, plain text or JSON, and the tools that only process an existing PDF (merge, split, OCR, extract). After that hand check, 19 genuine conversion offers remain on 2026-10-07, across 15 hosts. The median lists at USD 0.01 per call and the middle half sit between USD 0.01 and USD 0.02. Tanod's three conversion routes each list at USD 0.01.
Median listed x402 price to convert a document to PDF or Word: USD 0.01 per call across 19 offers on 15 hosts (snapshot 2026-10-07); the middle half run USD 0.01 to USD 0.02, from USD 0.002 at the floor to USD 0.05 at the top. Tanod's office-to-PDF (/v1/docs/to-pdf), HTML-to-PDF (/v1/pdf/html-to-pdf) and PDF-to-Word (/v1/pdf/to-docx) each list at USD 0.01, at the median: 4 offers list less, 7 list exactly this, and 8 list more.

Prices are per call as listed, in USD; the seven buckets sum to 19. The crowd sits exactly at USD 0.01, with a second cluster at USD 0.02. The cheapest tier (USD 0.002 to USD 0.005) is mostly single-shot web-page-to-PDF renders and one asynchronous file converter; the USD 0.02 to USD 0.05 top end is full headless-browser renders of arbitrary live pages, where the engine cost is higher.
Which conversion listings agents actually pay
The Bazaar also reports, per listing, how many distinct wallets paid it and how many paid calls it served in the last 30 days. Across the 19 offers that is 25 paying-wallet counts and 101 paid calls over the window, spread across the set rather than concentrated on one caller. It is a small but real niche: office-to-PDF and web-to-PDF renders draw the most repeat calls. Tanod's routes are not yet in this Bazaar demand feed.

Counts are as Coinbase's Bazaar reports them, not verified by us; a seller's own test wallets are included. Ranked by paying wallets, then paid calls. Every listing's counts are in the CC BY 4.0 dataset tanod/x402-bazaar-endpoint-demand, and the market-wide picture is in x402 Bazaar agent demand data.

Method
- Source: Tanod's agent index of the CDP x402 Bazaar, latest ok snapshot 2026-10-07. Internal-only sources are not used. The MCP registry and Smithery carry no per-call price and are left out.
- Category: an endpoint whose output is a PDF, or a Word or other editable office file (DOCX, ODT, RTF and so on), produced by converting or rendering an input — a web page or URL, HTML, Markdown, or an office or PDF file. Tanod's own listings (tanod.dev) are excluded.
- Hand check: a keyword match on "convert" or "pdf" alone pulls in hundreds of unrelated listings, so each candidate was read. Removed, by hand: everything whose deliverable is Markdown, plain text or structured JSON (the large URL-to-Markdown and document-parsing crowd); image-format converters; data-format converters (CSV, JSON, YAML, XML); unit, currency, time, colour and number-base converters; and PDF tools that only process an existing PDF — extract text, merge, split, rotate, OCR, read metadata, fill forms — without producing a new document format. Those PDF-processing routes are priced on the PDF API prices page instead.
- Also left out, as an adjacent category rather than a conversion: document generators that build a PDF from structured data or a template, such as invoice-from-JSON and template-slug renderers. They produce a PDF but there is no source document to convert; a reader who counts them would add a few offers at USD 0.006 to USD 0.1.
- Deduplicated: the same host and path counts once, at its listed price. A few sellers list several genuinely distinct conversion paths (one host lists office-to-PDF, HTML-to-PDF, web-to-PDF and a pandoc document converter as separate routes); each distinct path is counted once.
- The manual step is a judgement call and another reader could draw the line differently, especially between rendering a page to PDF and taking a screenshot, or between converting a document and generating one. The quartiles move little but the counts would change. Quartiles use linear interpolation. Listed price is the first payment requirement; a few sellers advertise a lower per-page or per-megabyte rate above a one-cent x402 minimum, and we use the minimum the gate actually charges. Listings can be stale or wrong. Because the hand step is needed here, this page is the reference figure and this category is not in the automatic daily file x402-category-prices.json.
Tanod's conversion routes
Each route is paid per call in USDC on Base, Polygon or Solana with x402. There is no account and no key; an unpaid call returns a 402 with the payment requirements. Prices are from Tanod's configuration on 2026-10-10.
| What it does | Route | Price per call (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Office to PDF: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument and other LibreOffice-openable files to PDF, layout and page breaks preserved; LibreOffice runs sandboxed and macros never run | /v1/docs/to-pdf | 0.01 |
| HTML to PDF: inline HTML or a public web page rendered to PDF by a headless browser, with paper size, margins and landscape options | /v1/pdf/html-to-pdf | 0.01 |
| PDF to Word: a PDF imported by LibreOffice into an editable .docx, text and layout kept as positioned text boxes | /v1/pdf/to-docx | 0.01 |
These are MCP tools too: convert_office_to_pdf, html_to_pdf and convert_pdf_to_word in the documents family at https://tanod.dev/mcp/docs (over MCP the free tier is automatic). The office-to-PDF and PDF-to-Word routes each drive a full LibreOffice process and have no free tier; an unpaid call returns a 402. Guides: office to PDF, HTML to PDF, PDF to Word.
Reading the comparison
- On price, Tanod's three conversion routes sit at the USD 0.01 median: of the 19 offers, 4 list less, 7 list the same and 8 list more. Tanod is not the floor here. A single-shot web-page-to-PDF render lists as low as USD 0.002, and the one asynchronous PDF-to-DOCX converter lists at USD 0.002; for those two jobs they undercut Tanod honestly.
- For office-to-PDF, the direct comparison is the LibreOffice-based renders near USD 0.01, which Tanod matches, synchronously and with macros disabled in a sandbox. For PDF-to-Word, only two other offers in the whole snapshot produce an editable file at all — one asynchronous at USD 0.002 and one pandoc converter at USD 0.01 — so the niche is thin and Tanod sits at the higher of the two.
- The USD 0.02 to USD 0.05 offers are full headless-browser renders of arbitrary live pages; Tanod's HTML-to-PDF is in that class but lists at USD 0.01.
- The real argument for Tanod is not the single-call price but that all three conversion directions sit in one no-account toolkit, on one USDC balance shared with sixty-odd other document, image, web and chain routes, so an agent does not juggle keys or accounts across vendors for each step.
